Lovecraftian RPG “Depersonalization’’ Reemerges with Complete English Overhaul and New Development Roadmap

June 2025 – MeowNature Studio has announced the full English localization overhaul of Depersonalization, its narrative-driven Lovecraftian RPG inspired by tabletop games like Call of Cthulhu. Initially, the game struggled to gain traction in Western markets due to translation issues. Now, after months of work with a professional localization team, Depersonalization is ready to deliver its complete horror experience to English-speaking players.

The update includes the retranslation of all current story modules, totaling more than 450,000 words. This includes the flagship scenarios All-in-One and One-in-All, Lies and Frauds, Soladnit, and Cursenday’s Black Carnival. The game’s custom module editor and tutorials have also been localized, allowing English-speaking players to create and share their own adventures.

“As developers of a narrative-driven game, we understand that poor localization deeply a ected how our story was received,” said a MeowNature Studio spokesperson. “This complete overhaul was our response to the community’s feedback—we want players to experience Depersonalization as it was always intended: immersive, emotional, and unsettling.”

The game is available now on Steam. The full English localization update is live, with additional content and improvements in development. Depersonalization is currently 35% o on Steam. The discount will run from June 5 at 10:00 AM to June 12 at 10:00 AM EDT (New York Time).

A Second Chance for a Cult Horror RPG

Depersonalization blends anime-style visuals with a modular RPG format. Players take on the role of the Star Key, a creation of Yog-Sothoth, traveling through fragmented timelines to uncover cosmic mysteries. Each module o ers a standalone horror scenario featuring dicebased mechanics, sanity systems, and multiple endings. With the new English localization, these complex narratives can now be fully appreciated by a global audience.

To improve transparency and community engagement, the studio has launched a new Monthly Report series. In its latest update, MeowNature detailed several upcoming developments:

  • Online Multiplayer Expansion – The studio is expanding its limited multiplayer test into a fully-fledged TRPG-style cooperative mode, with a focus on collaborative narrative gameplay.
  • New Module Reveal – A dedicated multiplayer scenario titled London: Core of Steam is in development in collaboration with designer FogCo       ee. Set in gaslit Victorian-era London, it introduces new horrors inspired by Cthulhu mythos.
  • Spine-Based Skeletal Animation Integration – The team is transitioning from frameby-frame animation to a skeletal animation system powered by Spine, allowing for more expressive characters, improved performance, and greater customization support.
  • UI and Accessibility Improvements – Inventory and text readability have been improved based on player feedback, with additional enhancements planned.
