Prepare for Punishment: Brutal Supermax Open World Survival Sim SCUM Launches into 1.0 on June 17th

Face unmatched realism as intense survival sim SCUM leaves Early Access later this month

Friday, June 6th, 2025, Zagreb, Croatia – Adapt or die. How long will you survive? Gamepires is thrilled to announce that extreme open world survival simulation game SCUM will be leaving Steam Early Access on June 19th, and launching into 1.0 with a new update introducing major graphical improvements and significant new gameplay features.

10 years in the making, SCUM first launched in Steam Early Access in 2018 and following 258 updates, tweaks and gameplay improvements, it now stands as a brutal PvPvE open world experience featuring unmatched realism and deeply complex survival mechanics. As a maximum-security prisoner under the watchful eye of the TEC1 corporation, freefall onto SCUM island in an intense televised event where survival is anything but guaranteed.

Go solo or squad up to survive a deadly world, with up to 64 players per server. Use strategic planning, resource management and adaptability to explore the island’s dense forests, picturesque beaches, serene fields, abandoned towns and rundown airfields, across a massive landscape featuring 225 square kilometres of terrain. Explore, loot, and craft your way to dominance, or face an inevitable death as you encounter undead prisoners, colossal mechs, and the threat of other players in a hardcore online survival simulation experience.

New for the 1.0 update, players can look forward to a full map rework, including a major graphical overhaul that improves the game’s visual quality and performance, allowing for more immersive environments and a fully-optimised gameplay experience.

Also coming at 1.0, armed NPCs will provide a new threat – and potential reward – to survivors, engaging hostiles at range and providing opportunities for players to scavenge additional loot. New and returning vehicles, including the Seaplane, Tractor and Sports Bike, give players additional methods to traverse the island and escape conflict, while major improvements to anti-cheat will provide a fair and improved game experience for all players.

“We’re so excited to confirm the 1.0 launch date for SCUM during tonight's Summer Game Fest,” said Sven Folkesson, General Manager at Gamepires. “The entire team has been working tirelessly to create an open-world simulation experience like no other, and a title that we hope will set the bar for the next generation of survival games. This is not a game for the faint-hearted, and we can't wait to see players put their skills to the test and fight for their survival when SCUM leaves Early Access later this month.”

SCUM is available now on Steam Early Access and will be launching into 1.0 on June 17th. For more information, follow SCUM on Facebook, X, and Instagram, join the community on Discord, and visit scumgame.com.
