John Carmack and John Cook Join Other Industry Legends in FPS, the Definitive First-Person Shooter Video Game Documentary


FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – July 15, 2021 – FPS icons John Carmack, Brian Upton, and John Cook have joined other industry legends to participate in the FPS: First Person Shooter, an upcoming retrospective documentary launching in 2022. Currently on Kickstarter, this deep-dive documentary already has 700+ backers and only 2 more weeks to pre-order with Kickstarter perks, such as your name listed in the credits, a Blu-ray or DVD of the documentary, poster designed by Dave Merrell, t-shirts and much more.


This definitive documentary brings together the video game legends who created this genre, highlights the legacy of the most popular and significant FPS titles from the last 48 years, and gives fans the chance to be involved in this iconic celebration. Industry insiders will reveal behind-the-scenes stories and unheard anecdotes in engaging interviews that provide new insights into FPS fans’ favorite games.


The newly named game industry innovators joining the documentary are:

  • Brian Upton (Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon)

In addition to these well-known game creators, other industry idols who signed on to be part of the cast include Warren Spector (Deus Ex), Ken Silverman (Ken’s Labyrinth), John Romero (Doom, Quake), Cliff Bleszinski (Gears of War), Bonnie Ross (Halo), American McGee (Doom, Quake), and many, many more.


This all-star cast will take you on a journey from the genre’s humble beginnings in the 1970s with the simple wireframe graphics of Maze War through to the present day. FPS: First Person Shooter will celebrate the impact of a wide range of classics and cult favorites, from Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Unreal Tournament and GoldenEye, to Half-Life, Halo, Call of Duty, and beyond.
