FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR Brings Full-Contact Racing to Steam Early Access Today

Flat2VR Spark’s first release puts players behind the wheel for destructive races, driver-launching stunts, arena battles, and high-speed VR pileups

TAMPA, FL - May 7, 2026 - Flat2VR Studios is excited to announce that FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR is now available in SteamVR Early Access for $19.99 USD. Developed by Mutar (through the Flat2VR Spark initiative) and published by Impact Inked, this official VR adaptation brings the crash-heavy arcade racing of FlatOut 4: Total Insanity into virtual reality with cockpit play, motion controller steering, wheel, pedal, and manual shifter support, spatialized audio, and DLSS integration.

FlatOut has always been built for speed, metal, debris, and questionable decisions at high velocity. In VR, that chaos moves naturally into the driver’s seat. Cars slam past your window. Pileups unfold at eye level. Near misses cut closer. A crash that once played out across a screen now lands through the windshield, around the cockpit, and directly in your face.

FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR launches with an absolutely packed Early Access content lineup, carrying the original game’s destructive race, stunt, assault, arena, and multiplayer mayhem directly into SteamVR headsets. Players can tear through 20 tracks, choose from 29 cars across Derby, Classic, Allstars, and Exclusive categories, launch themselves through 12 stunt events, and wreck their way across 6 arenas. The soundtrack keeps the original FlatOut 4 music intact, giving every race, stunt, and wreck its own hard-hitting backdrop.

Race, Wreck, Crash and Burn Across Multiple Modes
  • Race - Classic FlatOut racing built around speed, collisions, aggressive driving, and destructible trackside chaos.

  • Time Trial - Solo racing against the clock, where cleaner lines and sharper turns matter as much as keeping the car in one piece.

  • Assault - Weaponized racing where players use attacks and dirty tactics to slow down, smash, and survive the competition.

  • Carnage - Score-driven destruction built around wrecks, chaos, and causing as much damage as possible while keeping the run alive.

  • Stunt Mode - Twelve driver-launching stunt events where the car is only part of the problem and the driver becomes the projectile.

  • Arena Mode - Six arenas across Death Match, Capture the Flag, and Survivor, built for demolition-focused competition.

  • Online Multiplayer - Take the wreckage online and race, crash, and compete against other players in VR.

Bringing FlatOut 4 into VR means more than placing a camera inside the car. The original game was built around third-person arcade action, so the VR version needs to make every crash, spinout, and recovery work from inside the cockpit.

Full 6DOF support lets players lean forward, look through corners, check blind spots, and track incoming wrecks from inside the car. Updated vehicle interiors and hands on the wheel create a stronger sense of presence, turning the vehicle from something players control on a screen into a real space they occupy. Working rearview mirrors, speedometers, and a reworked cockpit UI keep important race information inside that space, while motion controller steering, wheel, pedal, and manual shifter support give players multiple ways to grab hold of the chaos, correct a slide, recover from impact, or fight the car back into the race.

The VR version also includes spatialized audio, DLSS support, CAS sharpening, improved textures, updated driver portraits, and reworked character visuals. The result is a version of FlatOut 4 built around proximity and impact, where the player is no longer watching the crash from behind the car, but sitting inside the mess as it happens.

FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR is also the first release under Flat2VR Spark, Flat2VR’s creator-first co-development label built to help exceptional talent bring licensed games officially into VR. Developed in collaboration with Mutar, also known as NoMoreFlat, the project brings full 6DOF VR support to a custom-engine arcade racer while giving Flat2VR Spark its first public proof point. Spark gives Flat2VR another way to work with specialist creators, support official VR releases, and bring more flatscreen games into headset form without forcing every project through the same internal production path.

As an Early Access release, FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR will continue receiving frequent and ongoing updates throughout development. Player feedback will help shape improvements across controls, wheel support, comfort, performance, multiplayer, and overall polish as the team continues building toward the full release.
