Desktop Fishing Gets Official Release Date – Big Demo Update Out Now

Cozy desktop idle game launches June 17 on PC (Windows - Steam)

Berlin, Germany – May 14, 2025 – Indie studio Ostend Games has announced the official release date for its debut title Desktop Fishing, a charming and relaxing desktop idle game where a frog companion fishes while you work. The game will launch for PC (Windows) on June 17, 2025, with a major demo update now live on steam.

Originally started as a side project, Desktop Fishing quickly grew into a full-featured experience following strong community interest. Over the past six months, Ostend Games – a Berlin-based game development co-operative founded by four friends who met during their game design studies – has expanded the project into a polished and content-rich game.

In Desktop Fishing, players are accompanied by a frog who quietly sits on the edge of their screen, casting lines and catching fish throughout the day. The fish earn in-game currency, which can be used to unlock customization items. Players can take on quests, level up, explore new regions, and discover a wide variety of fish – all while continuing with their everyday PC activities.

Key Features:
  • A gentle, ambient idle game designed to fit seamlessly into your workflow

  • Rich customization options for your frog and fishing setup

  • Hand-painted 2D visuals with a distinctive, charming aesthetic

  • Twitch integration for streamers to engage with their chat in real time

  • Opt-in gameplay: reel in fish instantly whenever you like, or let the frog fish passively – you'll never miss a catch

“It was really important to us to preserve the relaxing nature of fishing,” says developer Hagen from Ostend Games. “We didn’t want the game to distract from what players are actually doing on their PC – but rather to offer a sense of calm and subtle progression when they're looking for a break.”

Ostend Games is currently part of the DE:HIVE Incubator Programme, a Berlin-based initiative that supports young indie teams in developing their games within a collaborative and creative environment. The program has previously supported acclaimed titles such as ABRISS – Build to Destroy (by Randwerk Games) and Dorfromantik (by Toukana Interactive).

Desktop Fishing will be available on Steam (Windows) starting June 17, 2025. A major updated demo is available now.
