Code Coven partners with Facebook Gaming to launch Game Developer Program for second year

London, 20 April: Code Coven, the first global award-winning game development accelerator for underrepresented talent, is partnering with Facebook Gaming for the second year in a row to empower novice game developers with structured guidance, mentorship, and financial support via stipends to create games from concept to completion in the Game Developer Program with Code Coven and Facebook Gaming.

Game Developer Program with Code Coven and Facebook Gaming, which runs from 13th June to 26th August 2022, is now open for people to apply: codecoven.typeform.com/gdp22

The course is open to under-represented groups within the industry who want to learn to code, and aims to enable these early-stage game developers by providing the support they need to create and develop their games from end-to-end.

The course provides guidance from Code Coven, Facebook Gaming, partners, and mentors. These participants will form multidisciplinary teams and introduce the world to new interactive mobile experiences.

Throughout the Game Developer Program with Code Coven and Facebook Gaming, participants will:

  • Empower and support four teams to build mobile games that they are proud of.
  • Learn meaningful skills and strategies for game development with a focus on empathetic, ethical, and cooperative perspectives.
  • Develop a toolbox of resources, community, and professional network.
  • Develop know-how for navigating job applications, demoing, and speaking at conferences, starting their studios, or seeking funding for projects.
  • Be inspired to continue to be leaders and/or dedicated to bettering their communities and workplaces.

Tara Mustapha, Founder, and CEO at Code Coven says, “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Facebook Gaming for the second time. The course enables those from marginalised communities to enter and be embraced within the gaming industry. The continued commitment from Facebook Gaming is invaluable to ensuring greater impact and change. We look forward to supporting our new set of cohorts to learn from some of the best and brightest in the industry.”

The Summer Program which launched last year enabled alumni to be hired by sponsor studios, self-publish their games, enter other incubator programs, or are currently negotiating deals with publishers.
Since the inception of Code Coven, the team has supported over 450 marginalised game developers from 35 countries.

Applications are now open for Game Maker’s Program with Code Coven and Facebook Gaming: codecoven.typeform.com/gdp22
