Goblins, witches, fairies, ghosts and vampires have no place in the human world, so they live on a train humans cannot see. Players take their place as Conductor of the Veil Express: couple on carriages, fill them with homes and workshops, and watch every room come alive in cross-section as the train rolls on.

FIVE HOUSES, ONE TRAIN
Each House arrives with its own homes, workshops and needs, and none of them can manage alone. Goblins cook the food three Houses live on, witches enchant what the fairies need, and ghosts and vampires both rely on the fairies’ Liquid Life. Keep a House happy and the next one comes aboard: 42 rooms, 14 goods, one train to fit them all.

THE VEIL IS YOUR MONEY AND YOUR CLOAK
Happy residents create the Veil, the magic that conceals the Express from the outside world. Building spends it, and workshops draw on it as they work. Players expand carefully, balance production with upkeep, and prepare for Inquisitor patrols that make the train harder to hide. The game can be paused at any time to think.

KEY FEATURES

  • A home on hidden rails. A side-scrolling cutaway train where every room is hand-drawn pixel art and bustles with life.
  • Five Houses, interlinked. Goblins, witches, fairies, ghosts and vampires each bring their own homes, workshops and needs, linked by 14 goods and their production chains.
  • Spend the Veil wisely. The Veil is both your money and your cloak: spend too much and the train is exposed.
  • Five journeys. Begin with The Longest Journey, which ends with a choice of five endings; face harsher lands and demanding passengers in The Night Veil; give each House its own carriage in Separate Ways; take on the special challenge The Lost Carriages; or relax in the endless Sandbox Express.
  • Eight realms. The train rolls from misty marshes to frozen peaks, by day and by night.
  • Play your way. Roughly 4 to 6 hours for a first story, longer for the full set of journeys and endings. Runs on Steam Deck.

TRY THE DEMO
The free demo, The Light Veil, is a shorter journey taken from the main game and takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete. It is available to download on Steam from today.

AVAILABILITY
The Veil Express launches on Steam for Windows on Wednesday 2 December 2026, priced at $6.99 (US). The Steam page and free demo are live now, from 15:00 GMT on Wednesday 28 October 2026. Altergaze is happy to provide review keys to press and creators on request.

“We built The Veil Express for people who love watching a small, busy world come together. Every carriage on the train is somebody’s home, and we hope players enjoy keeping it all running as much as we enjoyed making it,” said Liviu B. Antoni, Altergaze.
