The digital festival - which will be kindly supported by headline sponsor Media Molecule, as well as Microsoft, Em3, Guildford Borough Council,  Charles Russel Speechlys, Microsoft, Nordisk Games, the University of Surrey, Hello Games, Criterion, Supermassive, and Perpetual - will take place on Friday 3rd December 2021 and will be streamed on Twitch, with other platforms TBC.

Set to take part are: Purveyors of jump scares - Selen Ceri & Emily Cook of Supermassive Games, Jonny Hopper & Mike Ducker of Glowmade- a Guildford Indie Studio who have recently partnered with Amazon Gaming, and the team at EA Criterion. Viewers can also expect more than one appearance from headline sponsors Media Molecule plus developers from many other Guildford studios and businesses.

Like previous events, the Guildford Games Festival 2021 - or #GGFest21 for short - has been devised to celebrate Guildford’s significant achievements in the games development industry, with an aim of attracting new talent to the area and encouraging young people to consider careers in tech.

This year’s festival will take place as a digital event on December 3rd, and will be preceded by a physical awards ceremony the previous evening at the The Boileroom in Guildford, supported by the good folks at Glowmade, Liquid Crimson, Renaissance PR, Stellar Entertainment, and Supermassive.

According to Lauran Carter, Head of Communications at Liquid Crimson, last year’s event was a huge success, with more than nine hours of high quality, original video content, including both industry and consumer talks and workshops.

“Last year’s Guildford Games Festival blew us away, and we were able to help generate £2.8 million of sales on Steam for local studios in a special sale,” says Lauran Carter  “Guildford is a special place in the UK games scene - it’s been home to big studios for the last 25 years - but we’re proud that the Guildford Games Festival has proved itself capable of reaching out beyond our shores and grabbing the attention of the wider worldwide industry.”

The Awards will take place at The Boileroom on the 2nd December. The Guildford Game Dev Community will be encouraged to nominate their peers and colleagues via online voting form and the Guildford Games Devcord/Discord. The evening will be supported by music from Professor Elemental and hosted by Lauran Carter. The VIP attendees can expect *quite* the quirky shindig!

The Guildford Games Awards shines a spotlight on the individuals achieving amazing things within the Guildford Game Dev community. With categories such as Creativity, Innovation, Diversity & Inclusion as well as the Guildford Hero Award, the ceremony offers an opportunity for local developers to unite and celebrate the achievements of their community.

Nominations will be encouraged from all devs in the GU postcode, and will be judged by our panel of talented industry judges, featuring a line up of esteemed Guildford Developers and Creatives. The Guildford Game Dev community are encouraged to nominate their colleagues and peers via an online form: https://guildfordgames.typeform.com/to/Fh5USIKJ
