Primal Rumble® Stacks the Deck on Meta Quest Next Year

Play XD and Impact Inked reveal a hilarious slapstick card battler with collectible deck-building, a single-player campaign, and up to four-player PvP for family-friendly rumbles.

TAMPA, FL - Nov. 13, 2025 - During today’s VR Games Showcase, Manchester based studio Play XD and publisher Impact Inked revealed Primal Rumble®, a slapstick card battler coming to Meta Quest in early 2026. Built for both virtual and mixed reality, Primal Rumble® lets players battle a roster of loveable creatures called Primals, collecting and building decks of comically violent moves while unlocking new characters, skins, and arenas in a family friendly package with no pay to win systems.

When the toybox lands on your coffee table

Primal Rumble® is designed to feel like a toy playset that suddenly springs to life in the middle of your home. Players gather around a living tabletop, watching vinyl styled Primals pace, fidget, and square up inside miniature arenas that sit on a coffee table or stretch across the living room. A single card can send Thump leaping from the top turnbuckle while Milo naps in the corner after a flurry of zoomies. Another card calls on Hoova to trumpet to the heavens and drop a frozen bathtub from somewhere above the ceiling, flattening a whimpering opponent in a burst of ice and bubbles. Jerry winds up his Pebble Dash, cheeks bulging with rocks, before launching himself forward in a clumsy, stone fuelled charge. Every rumble becomes a chain of pratfalls, near misses, and showboating finishers that play out across the player’s coffee table.

Mixed reality mischief in your living room

In mixed reality, this whole chaotic scene drops directly into the player’s space. The Meadow arena can be perched on the edge of a desk, the Desert can sprawl across the floor, and the Volcano can glow beside the sofa, all framed by passthrough views of the player’s physical space. The playset can dynamically be scaled up or down to fit their surroundings, watching Primals tumble off the edge of a coffee table or collide in mid air between the television and the wall. Hands, controllers, and headsets are skinned to match the chosen Primal, so everyone at the table is visually tied to their creature. A rumble between Milo and Yapper looks like a showdown between a giant purple cat and a pink pup, with their human pilots wearing matching colors and masks that bob and gesture in real time with every card that hits the table.

Real strategy under all the chaos

Underneath all of the absurd chaos, Primal Rumble® is a fully featured combat card game with a focus on simple rules and expressive decks. Players take turns drawing and playing cards that command their chosen Primal, with each card consuming energy and producing a clear effect. Attacks chip away at health, shields add extra protection, and special moves bring in twists like bathtub drops, pebble barrages, egg bombs, tail ricochets, and telekinetic fetches. Each Primal has its own pool of move cards that can be collected over time, and some cards are shared across the roster, encouraging players to experiment with different combinations. Fans of strategy card games will recognise the blend of deck building and tactical choices, adapted here to the rhythm and physical presence of virtual and mixed reality.

Rumbles, rewards, and a growing collection of creatures

The core loop is built for repeat play and gradual mastery. Players compete their Primals in Rumbles, earn new move cards by winning, unlock more cards as they progress, and then return to the deck builder to evolve their favorite loadouts. A secondary loop lets them unlock additional skins for their Primals and gain access to new arenas, gradually filling out a collection that reflects their preferences and playstyle. At Early Access launch, Primal Rumble® will include a single player adventure built around linear Rumbles that award new cards and cosmetic rewards, as well as PvP modes for up to four players, letting families and friends stage chaotic turn-based battles around the same virtual table. Four fully animated Primals will be available at Early Access launch, each with its own personality, behaviors, associated cards, and skins, supported by hundreds of move cards and a dynamic economy system.

The roster will expand to eight at full launch. Additional Primals will be available for a nominal price, along with optional cosmetic skin packs that let players dress up their creatures and avatars. All move cards are earned through play and cannot be purchased, and there are no blind bags, loot crates, gacha systems, or other mechanics that sell gameplay advantages. The game’s design leans on creative comedy, collecting with pride, and accessibility, inviting players to make choices just to see what will happen, to take pride in a collection of characters, arenas, cards, and skins, and to enjoy the game regardless of age or prior experience with strategy card games.

A studio built around the healing power of laughter

Primal Rumble® is developed by Play XD with the expressed goal of encouraging families and friends to come together in healthy, safe environments to laugh out loud and play. The team believes in the healing power of laughter and has built the game as an answer to a landscape of titles that often rely on manipulative systems aimed at younger audiences. Instead of designing for compulsion, Play XD has focused on crafting a world of expressive characters, readable systems, and honest rewards, trusting in the idea that a fun game that’s a joy to play can stand on its own. Primal Rumble® is intended as a brand that families can genuinely trust, a toybox of mischief that feels comfortable to share and chaotic to play.

A shared toybox in progress

Early Access on Meta Quest in early 2026 will give players a chance to help shape the future of Primal Rumble®. Play XD plans to use this period to continue balancing the card pool, refining the feel of each Primal, and expanding the roster of arenas, skins, Primals and move cards. Feedback from families, card game fans, and VR gamers will guide future updates, with the goal of keeping the experience fair, readable, and entertaining as the game grows.

Primal Rumble® will launch into Early Access on the Meta Quest store early next year. In the meantime, players can learn more by visiting the official website, joining the Primal Rumble® Discord server, and following the game on X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok for development updates, character spotlights, and future announcements.
