PSVR2: Genotype launch at 120 fps

Adventure/Shooter game Genotype received its day one patch today after having accidentally launched two weeks early

The developers were surprised when Genotype dropped on March 23rd because the FPS was initially scheduled to release on April 4. Since then, the dev team at Bolverk Games has been working on a “day 1” patch to bring the game up to speed with everything PSVR2 has to offer.

Today, Genotype was updated, and the PlayStation community is ready to review and scrutinize it.

“We are less surprised about the launch today, as I clicked the button myself,” says CEO Bo Bennekov with a smile. “Anyway, we are happy that the game is finally the way we’d like it to be on the PSVR2. We are particularly curious to see how the community receives the news of Genotype running 120fps.”

Color banding in version 1.5 removed icky vertical lines in the shadows.

Listening to player feedback, the team dialed up haptic feedback and added headset rumble. Here’s a list of changes and fixes:

New technical stuff

  • Genotype is now running at 120 fps native!
  • Added FSR (Foveated) rendering with 150% focus resolution and 100% base resolution
  • Added headset rumble
  • Added joystick deadzone setting
  • Improved controller haptics
  • Fixed fog color banding
  • Fixed a save game issue where items would incorrectly respawn
  • Fixed recentering
  • Fixed missing dialog when collecting all samples in an area

  • Development of Genotype took about 2 years and is still receiving support
  • Since its launch (12 Oct. 2023), Genotype has received 6 updates and 4 ports
  • Genotype is our most ambitious game yet, and we're scraping the ceiling of what we can accomplish with a studio the size of Bolverk Games
  • Genotype is fully voice acted, has a professional writer attached, is scored by a musician/sound designer, and the in-game fauna developed with a biologist (Roanoke Gaming)
