Celebrating two decades of ModDB and mods history

Melbourne, Australia - July 20, 2022 marks the 20th Anniversary of ModDB, the oldest mod-distribution and hosting platform in the world. After two decades of changing the game, we're taking a moment to look back at our journey from 2002 to today, and showcasing some of the most influential mods we've had the joy of experiencing in this time.

20 years ago, Scott Reismanis founded ModDB as a destination for creators to share what they are working on, so players like Scott could more easily find mods for their favorite games. Today, ModDB remains steadfast in its mission, providing access to more than 26,000 mods from generations of mod creators, that collectively have tallied over half a billion downloads. Now continuing to innovate in UGC with mod.io, ModDB remains the site that started it all and paved the way for easy access to mods.

As we commemorate our 20th anniversary, we invite you to celebrate (and hopefully cover) the remarkable effort the modding community puts into their creations - and the impact it has had on us, and the games we play. Huge, industry-changing mods that went on to become commercial success stories are in the spotlight for this celebration. Over the next 20 days we will be releasing five categories of industry-defining mods from past winners of our annual player voted Mod of the Year event!
