Mobile Games Market Review: Love Island USA Heats Up Mobile Users

GameRefinery, a Liftoff company, has unveiled its latest monthly report on the mobile games market. Backed by the latest data and expert insights from GameRefinery’s analysts, the report highlights all the new releases, performance-boosting live events, and notable game updates that shaped June 2025.

Here’s what GameRefinery found:

  • The launch of the latest series of Love Island US caused significant spikes in both revenue and downloads for the mobile version of the game, Love Island: The Game – Interactive Story. Daily downloads and daily revenue grew by more than 500% on iOS from May to June. Nearly 30% of all TV viewing for the latest series has occurred on mobile devices, making conversions much easier for the mobile game’s developers.

  • HABBY!’s roguelite game Capybara Go! and Mattel’s Phase 10: Casual Card Game hosted their first-ever in-game collab events. Capybara Go! collaborated with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles while Phase 10 hosted a collaboration event with The Peanuts featuring Snoopy.

  • Century Games is best known for its 4X strategy games like Whiteout Survival and Kingshot, but the GameRefinery analysts noted the mobile developer is gaining significant traction in the wider casual gaming market. Its new Merge2 title, Tasty Travels, finally cracked the US iOS top-grossing 100 charts in June, while its Match3 game TruckStar is now a serious contender to Chrome Valley Customs.

  • Umamusume: Pretty Derby is finally available in the West four years after its Japanese mobile debut in 2021. Umamusume is one of the most popular mobile games in Japan but hasn’t enjoyed the same levels of success in the US. Regardless, it still managed to launch and stay within the 50–70 GR chart.

  • Speaking of global releases, Persona 5: The Phantom X – a special mobile version of Persona 5 with some big changes – is now available worldwide ollowing its 2024 release in South Korea and China. In the US, the game peaked at No.1 in the US and Japan top-download charts, and at GR #47 and GR #2 in the US and Japan.
