[Beaver, WV] Sept. 16, 2025 — Longtreader Games announced that a free demo of Green Ember: Helmer in the Dragon Tomb is available for PC and Mac on Steam.
Based on S.D. Smith’s bestselling Green Ember series (1.7M+ copies sold), the game brings fans back to the beloved world—this time through a top-down adventure where players step into the story of Helmer before he became a legend. Players will fight brutal Nightwalkers, solve puzzles, and rescue those in need. The world is brought to life through the award-winning skills of Brazen Animation.
The demo marks the first playable glimpse of a unique cross-media project launched in April through Kickstarter, where 2,600 backers pledged $250,000 to bring both a new Green Ember novel and video game to life.
S.D. Smith, author and game creator, said:
“Will it be validated by our audience? I know them very well on the book front. That’s what I wonder about the video game. Will they come along and say, ‘We support this and we’re excited about it too?’ That’s our hope. That’s the boss level we’ve chosen to fight.”
Green Ember: Helmer in the Dragon Tomb is being developed for PC and Mac, with future platform availability to be announced.
The demo is free to download now on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3680420/Green_Ember_Helmer_in_the_Dragon_Tomb/
