Avid Games celebrates the darkside of love in new History of Heartbreak CUE Cards pack

Award-winning mobile game Cards, the Universe and Everything (CUE Cards) reveals some of the most dastardly and despicable lovers in history

12th February 2021, Tunbridge Wells, UK: The more jealous, murderous and downright macabre side of love through the ages is the inspiration for the new ‘History of Heartbreak’ card range, available now in Cards, The Universe and Everything (CUE Cards).

The new card range shines a light on some of history’s most dastardly and despicable acts, committed in the name of love. For example, there’s Prince Rudolf who carried a little black book of his “conquests”, colour-coding his affairs for which were virgins. His subsequent suicide pact with lover Mary Vetsera, would eventually start off the chain of events that would lead to World War I.

The new pack also features King Pedro of Portugal, who went on to exact revenge for the murder of his mistress, Ines de Castro, by ripping out the hearts of her killers. The pack also includes historically significant locations associated with love. These include the Passerelle des Arts in Paris, where thousands of padlocks have been left on the bridge by lovers. And The Skull of St. Valentine which ended up in Basilica di Santa Maria, Rome.

Developed by UK-based games publisher, Avid Games, Cards, the Universe and Everything is a multi-award-winning, multi-dimensional card-collecting and battling game, where knowledge is power. In the game, players must use strategy to battle literally anything against anything - from Napoleon versus a Velociraptor to a Wombat going head-to-head with String Theory.

Paul Mayze, Managing Director, Avid Games, said: “They say that the path of true love never did run smooth. That’s certainly true of many of the unfortunate individuals that grace our latest Valentine’s inspired CUE Cards.

“But while these characters may have been unlucky in love, the beauty of CUE Cards is that with the right combination of other cards they can be part of a hugely successful winning deck. Who needs a heart anyway?”
