TAVERNS OF ALDERMONT - A FIRST-PERSON MEDIEVAL TAVERN GAME FROM A SOLO DEVELOPER - NOW ON STEAM WISHLISTS, DEMO COMING SOON

Norway, October 2026 - Hamre Games, the one-person studio of Norwegian developer Preben, has revealed Taverns of Aldermont, a first-person tavern game set in a medieval town. The game is available to wishlist on Steam now, and a free playable demo is coming very soon.

Players inherit their grandfather's run-down tavern, the Old Hearth, and bring it back to life: pouring ale by hand, cooking over the hearth, serving the tables and keeping an eye on the money. When the cellar runs low, they head out into a town full of people and shops to buy more. Night after night the same regulars come back, each with their own personality, story and running jokes - and when someone starts a fight, the player settles it with their own fists.

As the money comes in, players can buy four more taverns, each with its own crowd and its own way of making money:

  • The Rusty Anchor - a harbour inn full of sailors. Row out into the fjord, catch fish and sell them in the tavern.
  • The Thieves' Den - a rough crowd of criminals. Buy stolen goods at the back door, sell them for more, and run the card tables as the house.
  • The Seven Tongues - where the town's strange races gather. Dwarves won't sit with elves, orcs won't sit with humans, so seating becomes a puzzle. Here the player can also learn magic: 15 spells to use whenever they see fit.
  • The Wandering Keg - the last and finest tavern: a large ship with its own crew. Steer it yourself, fish from the deck and drop anchor at villages, monasteries, castles and cities.
KEY FEATURES
  • Five taverns, each with its own regulars, crowd and way of making money
  • First-person pouring, cooking and serving
  • Regulars who return night after night, with their own stories
  • Bar brawls fought with your own fists - or talk the troublemakers down
  • A whole medieval town to walk through, from the market to the harbour, the cathedral and the castle
  • A young lute player to hire, who gets better the longer he plays for you

"I've always been fascinated by the Middle Ages, and especially by taverns," says Preben. "I wanted a game where I could really feel like I was there, running a tavern of my own - and when I couldn't find one, I decided to make it myself. I've been working on it alone for over a year and a half now."
