Four years ago, the space adventure game Starcom: Nexus launched on Steam. Since then, it has built up a devoted following among its over 60,000 players. They’ve loved building their starships, allying or battling with its denizens, and most of all, exploring its crafted universe and story.
In a few days, a follow-up title, Starcom: Unknown Space, will enter Steam Early Access.
Its development has been heavily influenced by players: Nearly 2000 players completed a survey telling developer Wx3 Labs what they wanted in the new game. Prior to Early Access there have been nine rounds of closed betas with each iteration refining the gameplay. Hundreds of players have play tested the game and provided feedback.
They’ve enthusiastically praised the new game’s fidelity to the original core game play, improvements to the ship building and mission systems, and the incredibly high level of polish. Or, as one tester put it, “I **** love this game. If you have a price for a final product, I will send the money [for] it right away.”
