Final days of Toada Brava’s Kickstarter campaign

8 days left until the end of the crowdfunding campaign for indie game Toada Brava, currently at 68% of its US$ 35,000 goal

São Paulo, Brazil, October 28, 2026 – Deeply inspired by Latin American culture, Toada Brava is an RPG with a “Brazilian flavor” that feels like playing a cartoon. The game, currently in development, has a public demo on Steam and is in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign, which began on September 22 and will end on November 6. You can support the campaign here.

About Toada Brava

Drawing inspiration from classic Japanese RPGs such as Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG, Toada Brava offers a nostalgic experience that evokes these older games while innovating in its theme and artistic direction. Brazil is ever-present in the game: various elements in Toada Brava are derived from its history, music, folklore, and flora and fauna. With a distinctive cartoon style, all the game’s visual elements form a cohesive identity, and all its animations are hand-drawn, frame by frame.

Featuring a rich narrative filled with references to Brazil and its colonial past, Toada Brava tells the story of Kako, a friendly little monkey. Our hero was living a quiet life on his ranch, until one day the Duke of Santacrúz came to seize his lands to mine for gold. Outraged by the nobleman’s arrogance, Matilda, Kako’s mother, punches the Duke in the face and is arrested by his guards, then taken to the Dungeons of Santacrúz – a massive prison complex where captives are forced to mine gold. Kako runs away from home and breaks into the Duke’s estate with the intention of saving his mother, but is captured and thrown into prison.

Building on this premise, the story of Toada Brava explores themes such as colonization, imperialism, rebellion, and popular resistance, highlighting various historical and social issues common to Latin American countries. Characters such as “Junk Rats,” “Krazy Kats” who struggle with alcoholism, and police dogs known as “Beleguins” populate the game’s world, humorously illustrating our far-from-sterile reality.

“Toada” is a Portuguese word whose broadest use in Brazil is to refer to a song’s melodic line or a simple tune. In the universe of Toada Brava, music can conjure magic and produce powerful effects – showing that the word “toada” in the title isn’t there for nothing. Each main character controlled by the player has a musical instrument, used to cast different types of magic. Although it is a turn-based RPG, the game features mechanics that synergize with its musical theme, incorporating time mechanics into its battles to land extra hits or block attacks.
