CATO: Buttered Cat has a wide variety of tricky puzzles and game features for anyone to enjoy! Here are some highlights.
Boss Battles
At the end of each of the 5 maps is a runner sequence where the kitty rides on the buttered toast to slip and slide their way through a high-speed course straight into an action-packed boss battle!
Unlike regular puzzle stages, boss battles don’t give you time to sit and think. These fights will test your reflexes and action techniques you’ve learned on your journey.
Avoid the bosses’ attacks and find their weaknesses to carefully but swiftly take them down!
Hidden Rooms and Cute Skins
Some stages have hidden rooms, where you can obtain new skins for your cat and toast. You can check whether a stage has a hidden room by taking a quick glance at the stage icon on the map. Can you find all the hidden rooms and collect all of the skins?
Once you’ve obtained a skin, you can equip it at your hideout. Don’t just solve puzzles... solve them in style!
Special skins have been added to commemorate the release of the Switch and PS5 versions, and these skins can be used from the very start!
Both the kitty and toast get two new stylish skins befitting of the two consoles, so make sure to try them on!
Hints and Stage Skipping
The further you progress, the harder the puzzles will get, and the more stage gimmicks you’ll have to learn. You might find yourself stuck and want to give up... but that’s when hints come in handy.
When you use a hint, it’ll show you a good place the cat and toast should be in order to solve the puzzle.
If you still can’t get past the stage, you can even skip it entirely if you want to. You can solve the puzzles you know first, since you can always come back to challenge the stages you skipped.
Simple but Addictive Minigames
Your hideout includes an area where you can play little minigames. Every time you clear a new map, a new minigame is added to the hideout.
Every minigame is simple, but also dangerously addictive. You could play them for a change of pace from the puzzle stages, but you might struggle to go back to the main game!
Your highest scores get recorded in each game, so aim high and compete with your friends!
Local 2-Player Co-op
Use two controllers locally to play co-op, where one player controls the cat and the other controls thetoast! On the Switch, you can also use the L and R joycons.
You'll have to really cooperate and be in sync to beat the game in co-op, which offers a different flavor of fun from singleplayer.
