3lb Games is releasing its first Add-on, Cancer Blaster, for Grokit, in support of Children’s Cancer Research Fund. This partnership with Children’s Cancer Research Fund will raise money for childhood cancer research. It will be released on September 1st 2024, kicking off Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
In this new Add-on, every victory over the cancer cells in-game is a step towards a real-world triumph. Players will engage in a dual-fronted battle, combating childhood cancer both in the gaming realm and in the real-world fight, with their purchase fuelling vital research through Children’s Cancer Research Fund.
The Add-on was imagined with help of some special individuals: kids and teens impacted by cancer. Collaborating with Big Dreams Virtual Tour, 3lb Games/Grokit gave this creative crew an opportunity to dream big by offering them the chance to create their own VR game. The kids all pitched game ideas, game mechanics, character designs and voted on a game that is all about fighting cancer cells. The kids even helped to voice and draft characters!
“It is extraordinary to see how game making can make a big impact on the fight against childhood cancer. Having kids affected by cancer as designers makes it a powerful representation of the lives we are fighting to save with the best researchers and doctors in the country,” says Elizabeth Allen, CEO of Children’s Cancer Research Fund.
The price of the Add-on will be $3.99. Along with the purchase of the game, users will also receive a new game environment for Grokit that puts you inside the bloodstream, and new avatar accessories including a watch and 3 hats.
Grokit is currently available for Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest Pro, and Meta Quest 2.
