The world’s first African games showcase is coming

About a week ago, Nintendo held its prestigious Nintendo Direct and showed off captivating titles such as “Kirby and the World Beyond”, from Japanese studio HAL Laboratory, and Metroid Ravenous, from the Spanish studio Mercury Steam. A week before that, Sony broadcast its annual State of Play where the surprise sequel Maneater 2, co-developed by US-based Tripwire Interactive and Demiurge Studios, was announced. A week before that was Gamescom, where during the Opening Night presentation, multiple game trailers were shown including New Zealand’s Grinding Gear Games’ anticipated sequel Path of Exile 2.

These events are brimming with games that seem to do everything, cater to the desires of everyone, and are made by studios and developers from everywhere.

Correction: Almost everywhere.

Give or take, 54 everywheres.

Algeria, Ghana, Angola, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Nigeria, Egypt, Mozambique, and 44 other African countries aren’t even whispered on the State of Play or the Video Game Awards stages. Aren’t game showcases meant to represent some of the best videogames in the world? How is an entire continent's worth of games excluded from the conversation year after year? Do the hundreds of studios in Africa and her thousands of developers not deserve to be given a stage? Origin Point Games believes they do, and is joining the global conversation with an emphatic “Hey, look over here!”

A new stage, a new standard
In short, OPG says “Hey global games industry, meet Africa. We develop games here too, and they are pretty amazing!”
OPG is a games discovery platform that curates a selection of the most intriguing games made in Africa by Africans. In a first-to-ever-do-it move, we plan to put together a masterfully crafted, premium, feature rich showcase and broadcast it to the world. Where an entire continent is often left out of the itinerary, we aim to be the trusted source that places her games on stage, with the studios making them.

Imagine for a moment–South Africa alone has 11 official languages, each belonging to a different cultural group. Each group has its way of thinking, working and learning. Each has a different understanding of what it means to “play” and to have fun. Better yet, each one has a different understanding of the mechanisms that make a game. Now, imagine the games that come forth when all those methodologies clash, merge and deviate. Through it, the craft is refined, and a new standard is born.

That’s just one country. There are 53 more undergoing their very own evolution.
Origin Point Games celebrates these African game designers and developers, and their technical and creative skills by building them a space on the world’s stage.

There’s more here than you know
We are building a showcase we know the studios will love, and on 12 November 2026 8pm SAST when it goes live, we know you will too. You can watch the Origin Point Games showcase on Origin Point Games Showcase 2026 | Africa's Broadcast-Quality Games Showcase.
