STARBOOK

You come across the long-lost “StarBook” of your aunt Nicola - born 12th Aug 1978 (which makes her a Leo, she’d have you know) - overflowing with memories from when she first took an interest in the night’s sky in the 1990’s.

Often jotting down each constellation she recognised on the closest thing she had to hand, it’s clear to see Nicola’s StarBook is labour of love - an eclectic mix of receipts, napkins, tickets, posters, and other bits and bobs. If she could take a pen to it, it’s in there.

And now you’ve found it! Immerse yourself in the StarBook, constellation by constellation, learning how to join those stars in the night’s sky. Discover Nicola’s favourite constellations for yourself, as well as unlocking some of her favourite memories.

INSPIRATION

Many moons ago, in what now seems like a different universe,  the Whitepot Studios team took part in a whirlwind summer experiment of making Six Games In Six Weeks. One of the themes was “Patterns”, and out of that StarGazing was born.

Our artist, Amy Seaman, who originally came up with the concept, wrote on our blog:

“The element of an underlying visual narrative based on an ancestor’s journal is an element that comes from my love of old scrapbooks and albums, they tell a story with mostly only pictures – and leave a lot of details up to your own interpretation, allowing countless stories to be created.” - Amy Seaman

And our art lead Matt McDyre, spoke the month prior about the art style iterations that StarGazing itself has been through - originally starting off as pixel art!

“This new style is much more illustrative, with influences from children’s illustrated books and the work of Mary Blair. It’s a style that is really rewarding to work on, and it showcases the best of mine and Amy’s abilities.” - Matt McDyre

StarGazing is available now on Android and iOS, free-to-play.
