September 15th, 2021 — Dawn, a Procter & Gamble brand dedicated to creating a cleaner world for wildlife, and Overwolf, the all-in-one platform that enables creators to build, distribute, and monetize in-game apps and mods, have teamed up to launch the #DawnSavesWildlife challenge, where players will compete to design the most creative wildlife environment in Minecraft for a chance to win prizes worth up to $30,000.
Dawn was introduced nearly 50 years ago to help Americans tackle tough, greasy dishes. Years later, Dawn’s grease-fighting was taken out of the kitchen and into animal hospitals by wildlife rescue experts at International Bird Rescue who were looking for something tough enough to handle oil, but gentle enough to care for birds. Today, Dawn partners with wildlife experts at International Bird Rescue and The Marine Mammal Center to protect and care for wildlife. Through its partnership with Overwolf and the #DawnSavesWildlife challenge, Dawn aims to raise awareness for the need to protect the aquatic wildlife that we share a common home with.
“Dawn is dedicated to creating a cleaner world for wildlife – starting at the sink, with products designed to get dishes cleaner faster while using fewer resources, and at the shore, where we work with rescue experts to care for wildlife,” commented Kristine Decker, Senior Vice President, North America Dish Care at Procter & Gamble. “We can’t wait to see Dawn’s mission come to life in a completely new way thanks to the creativity of the Minecraft community. We hope this challenge inspires people and emphasizes the need to protect the world we share with wildlife.”
Starting September 20th and running through October 17th, Minecraft players will have the opportunity to post video clips on Twitter of their best wildlife environment using the hashtag #DawnSavesWildlife. All wildlife environments are accepted, from the sea otter's kelp forest to the albatross’ ocean habitat. Each week of the challenge, judges from Overwolf, Dawn, and Dawn’s non-profit partners, International Bird Rescue and The Marine Mammal Center, will award each of the top three creators of the most inspiring wildlife clips with an Alienware PC. At the end of the campaign, Oculus Rift Quest VR headsets will be raffled off to participants. Additionally, for each clip submitted, Dawn will donate $5 to their non-profit partners. The submitted clips will be judged on three criteria including the quality and complexity of the build to showcase how we can save the wildlife, the connection to Dawn’s wildlife efforts, and the overall quality and production of the video clip.
“I’m excited to work with Dawn to bring much-needed attention to helping care for wildlife and protect our planet’s unique ecosystems while having $30,000 worth of hardware up for grabs. I know the Minecraft community loves a good challenge and they will imagine and design the most impressive wildlife environments, inspired by the real thing,” commented Uri Marchand, Overwolf Co-Founder and CEO.
Eco-conscious content creators and popular Minecraft personalities will be joining in for the fun including Elysium and JerryVsHarry.

About International Bird Rescue
In 1971 after 800,000 gallons of crude oil spilled into the bay, concerned individuals led by a registered nurse named Alice Berkner jumped into action, bringing International Bird Rescue ("Bird Rescue") to life. We have always had to pave a road where there is none. Staff and volunteers work with tenacity alongside clients, partners, and the public to find solutions. Today, we research best practices at our crisis response hospitals in California and Alaska and share them worldwide. Our mission is to inspire people to act toward balance with the natural world by rescuing waterbirds in crisis. We dream of a world in which every person, every day, takes action to protect the natural home of wildlife and ourselves.
