The Playtime Co. factory opens its doors once more! This time, for a Smiling Critters Adventure!

Announced today as part of the 28 Games Later showcase, Mob Entertainment welcomes players to a limited-time open beta for Escape From Playtime, the co-op survival horror game set within the Poppy Playtime universe, launching to Steam Early Access October 21st.

Now through October 4th at 6:00 PM PDT, players can explore the factory's decaying halls from a critter’s eye view as they begin to untangle the web of mystery surrounding their mission: scavenge resources, haul materials, and survive whatever lurks in the shadows as you work toward building…something.

Celebrating the open beta going live, Mob Entertainment has released a new teaser trailer for the game, this time calling back to the very first Smiling Critters introduction and further hinting at what awaits players when they dive into this new adventure.

Players can join the Open Beta now at FirstLook.gg. The game launches into Early Access on October 21, 2026.

Escape From Playtime’s Twist on Co-Op Horror:

  • Cute Plushies Hunted by Cannibal Toys: Play as the Smiling Critters, the grinning plushies first introduced in Poppy Playtime: Chapter 3. You are small, soft, and very much not at the top of the factory food chain. Use this to your advantage, by any means necessary.

  • Lore-Driven Motivations: Escape From Playtime is part of the larger Poppy Playtime story, with new lore unlocking as the game updates and appearing in the starting hub. The Voice promises freedom and a home for useful toys, but every resource gathered feeds into something bigger…something better. The question is what, and why.

  • So Many Ways to Survive: Each run mixes resource gathering with classic Poppy Playtime-style puzzles, acrobatics, stealth, and light combat. Players can work together, split up, betray each other, and, when survival gets ugly, maybe eat a friend for extra health.

Played solo or with up to four players, each runin Escape From Playtime sends teams into a dynamically changing section of the facility to find and transport resources for a mysterious Voice. The materials are needed to help build a promised home for toys who prove their loyalty and usefulness. Simple enough, except the factory is filled with rejected Playtime Co. creations stalking the halls. Players must search quickly, choose when to split up or stick together, and know when to retreat.

Along the way, players can solve puzzles, uncover clues, scavenge tools, use hiding spots and alternate routes, and turn the factory layout to their advantage. Proximity voice chat adds another risk: communication is essential, but an irresponsible whisper can bring the mission to a brutal end.

As you complete runs, Escape From Playtime reveals a deeper connection to the larger Poppy Playtime story. The Voice promises freedom and a home, but its motives remain unclear. Every resource gathered feeds into something bigger. You are helping build something, but what, and why?
