Popular city builder Kingdoms and Castles gets big update and bigger discount

The city-building game goes large in latest free patch, with new buildings and a freecam mode

June 17, 2023 - Fresh from revealing its latest title, Lion Shield is pleased to announce another major update for its original city-building game Kingdoms and Castles, which has sold over 1.3 million copies to date. The big infrastructure update enhances building options to better deal with late-game needs, launching alongside a significant discount – anyone who hasn’t tried the medieval fantasy game can pick it up at 40% off the base price during today’s Daily Deal and all the following week on Steam.

The “Infrastructure & Industry” update introduces larger versions of various buildings to assist with city planning, many of which came from community suggestions:

  • Bigger versions of the Treasure Room and Produce Storage with more-than-doubled capacity, allowing players to store more in a smaller space.
  • Larger versions of the Iron Mine and Quarry, which increases a city's mineral output at the cost of extra workers and tools.
  • Bigger iterations of the Charcoal Maker, Reservoir, and Tavern.
  • A smaller version of the Church in the form of a Chapel, to fulfill religious needs with a more compact building.

Other improvements with this patch include some Steam Deck quality-of-life changes, and a round of balance tweaks and fixes. Check out the official patch notes for more information.

Lion Shield recently announced it’s partnering with Hooded Horse for its next title,
Nova Roma, which is a city-building game themed on Ancient Rome. Build a thriving metropolis to rival that of the “Eternal City,” manipulate the terrain and flow of water, and deal with the ever-evolving needs of your citizens from grain to games.

Kingdoms and Castles is available on PC via
Steam and GOG, with a base price of $14.99 / £11.39 / €12.49. A press kit is available.
