January 22, 2026 – This weekend, January 23-25 2026, Defeating Games for Charity returns for its third annual video game marathon on Twitch to raise money for the Video Game History Foundation. This year’s event is bigger than ever with 25 streamers and over 50 hours of games. Their contributions to the VGHF can be seen in the launch of a digital library, educational events, and even the development of new video games, and they’re aiming to increase that support this year.
Over the course of three days, over two dozen Twitch streamers from around the world will be showcasing games that have personal meaning to them. There will be streams by Phil Salvador (Library Director at the Video Game History Foundation) playing Myst while talking through their extensive Cyan collection, and Tim Longo Jr (Creative Director on Star Wars, Halo, and Tomb Raider game series) telling stories in Dwarf Fortress, alongside an international cadre of passionate game players. The event features games finished as quickly as possible, games beaten without taking any damage, games modded with exciting variations, in-development games exhibited by their developers, games played on their highest difficulty settings, and games analyzed for their themes and impact. Defeating Games brings together a community of streamers for a joyful revue of game history while raising money for a great cause.
This year’s event features entertaining players showcasing their favorite games in a variety of ways. These include Hollow Knight: Silksong, Untitled Goose Game, Myst, Dark Souls II, Unpacking, Metal Gear Solid, Dwarf Fortress, Kerbal Space Program, Hades, King’s Quest, The Typing of the Dead, SimEarth, and more! The Defeating Games team believes in the unifying power of games, and strives to create an inclusive environment where different types of game players can celebrate games together. This conviction aligns perfectly with the values of The Video Game History Foundation, for which the team is happy to be raising money again in their Twitch raid chain event.
