Emergent history simulation The End of History marks six months in Early Access with its biggest update wave yet, now 30% off in the Steam Summer Sale

Six months of community-driven development have reshaped the game. Relationships you can read, deeper tactical systems, and a refined interface have taken it well beyond its launch build.
WorldMap and solo developer Tatamibeya are bringing The End of History to the Steam Summer Sale with a 30% discount, the deepest since the game launched. The sale runs from June 25 to July 9, 2026 (PT).
The End of History is an emergent narrative sandbox strategy RPG set in a fictional medieval feudal world. The developer, Hiroshi Sakakibara, is an environment artist who spent years at studios including CD Projekt Red, where he worked on Cyberpunk 2077 as the coordinator of the team that built the streets and districts of Night City. He now lives in Poland and develops independently under the Tatamibeya name, with previous releases including NOSTALGIC TRAIN (2018) and FARAWAY TRAIN (2021). Like Dwarf Fortress, RimWorld, and Crusader Kings, The End of History builds its drama from systems rather than scripts. Every choice ripples outward through a living world, where NPCs pursue their own goals and history writes itself around the player. You are not a chosen hero. You are one more person inside a world that keeps moving with or without you.
Since entering Early Access on December 10, 2025, the game has reached its six-month milestone. Over these months it has changed substantially, with the developer shipping a steady stream of updates in response to the community.
What has evolved over six months
Relationships you can actually read
The heart of the game is how people relate to one another, and that layer is now far more legible. A new family tree interface visualizes shifting affinities and impressions between characters. An "enemy of my enemy" affinity system lets you see, in the tavern, the family tree, and the pre-battle screen, who favors or resents whom. A reworked tavern conversation system lets you agree, push back, or deflect, and those choices ripple into how other characters and bystanders regard you, shown to you on the spot.
Battles decided by strategy beyond the battlefield
Combat here is not about speed or spectacle. Logistics, equipment, and research are what decide a fight. A new pincer system rewards surrounding the enemy with heavy damage, while a combat techniques system adds roughly 30 techniques across five levels, chosen to counter enemy composition and play to your army's strengths. Formation control and artillery impact prediction widen the tactical vocabulary further.
Stability and interface, improved continuously
Crash and soft-lock fixes have been treated as the foundation everything else rests on. Alongside them came conversation logs, event notification logs, a redesigned compass interface, cloud saves, and many quality-of-life changes.
Just-released updates for the sale
To coincide with the Summer Sale, the latest update adds a new History Timeline interface that lets players review world events chronologically, along with a revised notification system and a text size option.
A full account of these six months is shared in Developer Letter #5 on Steam.
A growing audience
The game has steadily reached the right Western strategy audience since launch, including coverage from established strategy channels. It carries over 85,000 Steam wishlists and has sold more than 15,000 copies since its Early Access debut. At Digital Dragons 2024 it received the Activision Special Award in the Indie Showcase.
