Studio Witchstar’s debut game, a cosy narrative adventure where you are a lost ghost, is available to play on Steam now!

The Final Farewell is a cosy narrative adventure about saying goodbye and letting go of those we love, whilst cherishing the memories they leave behind. As a lost ghost, the player wanders the beautiful, yet ominous, Whispering Woods, befriending wayward mortals and piecing together their misty memories. Successfully lay to rest the echoes of the past, and you may even discover the truth of your own demise!

Creative Lead, Catherine McFall acknowledged that the game deals with complicated themes like grief and memory loss, and spoke on the importance of not straying from hard-hitting emotional narratives:

“The idea for the game came from the concept of ghosts, and what - or who - haunts us. Grief is a complex topic that everyone can relate to, and it doesn’t always relate to death - sometimes we grieve when a relationship ends, or for a path unchosen in life. We wanted to provide a cathartic experience for the player to process their own feelings on the topic. What if you could take some control of what you’ve lost or forgotten?”

Studio Witchstar appreciated the support of Northern Ireland Screen through their innovative Minigame program. The program allowed the team to work from concept, to prototype, all the way to releasing their debut game on Steam.
