MILLIONS TUNE IN TO SUMMONERS WAR WORLD ARENA CHAMPIONSHIP WITH ASIAN-PACIFIC CHAMPION MR. CHUNG CLAIMING FIRST PLACE AND SHARE OF $210,000 PRIZE POOL

Record number of fans tune in as Google Play hosts first-ever entirely virtual Summoners War World Arena Championship mobile esports final

LOS ANGELES Nov. 24, 2020 – More than 2.25 million viewers worldwide witnessed the epic conclusion of mobile esports tournament Summoners War World Arena Championship World Finals (SWC2020) this past weekend.

Breaking last year’s viewership records and showing that virtual esports is here to stay, SWC2020 made Summoners War esports history as the livestream drew in 1.3 million viewers with a peak concurrent viewership of 250,000. As the field of eight winnowed down to the final two, MR. CHUNG and GAIA battled it out for their share of the $210,000 prize pool.

The final match saw MR. CHUNG emerge as champion, taking home $100,000 while GAIA snagged the second-place prize of $20,000.

“My goal was to win the first match and I didn’t expect this result at all,” said MR. CHUNG in his winning post-match speech. “I sincerely thank everyone for their support and I promise to keep doing my best!”

“We are extremely proud of all the challenges this year’s Summoners War World Arena Championship players and production team have overcome, and want to thank Google Play for hosting our first-ever virtual tournament,” said CEO of GAMEVIL Com2uS USA, Kyu Lee. “A remote championship may have quirks, but these professionals poured their heart and soul into this game, and their love for it has shined through. We thank all of our fans and viewers for participating in this historic event and are already planning for next year’s Summoners War World Arena Championship!”

Sponsored by Google Play, publisher and developer Com2uS prepared SWC2020 as a completely virtual event, which was a new endeavor compared to the massive venues in Los Angeles or Paris that held previous in-person SWC finals. The championship was hosted by familiar Summoners War shoutcasters Makeitabud, Stoic and DGon who hyped up fans with energetic commentary throughout the stream. The World Finals was streamed on Summoners War’s official YouTube channel, Twitch channel and various other streaming platforms in 15 different languages.

Preceding the main event, the global SWC2020 virtual casting team played a match of three versus three to warm up the audience for some electric Summoners War action. Split into teams by region: the DARK team, made up of casters from France, Japan and Thailand, won two to one against the LIGHT team which consisted of casters from USA, Korea and Chinese Taipei.

As the entire event was hosted online, Com2uS encouraged participation from viewers and fans to connect them with the players. Many supporters took to social media to show their love for their favorite players during the digital-only event. Thousands of supporters sent in beautiful fan-art and supportive videos, boosting morale for the pro SWC2020 players. Com2uS sent swag and gifts such as a  brand-new Ragdoll figurine to those who sent in the best fan-art and videos. Many die-hard fans were proud to have supported their favorite players to the end.

Audiences who missed out on SWC2020 can view the entire stream on the official Summoners War’s YouTube channel. More details and information can be found on the official SWC2020 website: https://www.summonerswar.com/swc
