Angry Birds Celebrates 15th Anniversary with Special In-Game Events and More

HELSINKI, FINLAND – NOVEMBER 11, 2024 – Angry Birds is celebrating its 15th anniversary with months of exciting events! As one of the most iconic and globally loved mobile games, Angry Birds is inviting players and fans to join the festivities with a series of special in-game events, collaborations with innovative artists, exclusive comics and more.

As part of the 15th anniversary celebrations, Angry Birds will roll out a series of exciting in-game events that promise to delight both long-time fans and new players. The in-game events, including exclusive rewards, fun challenges, and plenty of surprises, will take place from November 11 to December 16. The limited-time in-game events begin with Angryversary: Nostalgia Flight, a long-awaited tournament week in Angry Birds Friends (November 11–17), followed by a special Anniversary hat event in Rovio's popular slingshot game Angry Birds 2 (November 21–28). The in-game anniversary celebrations will conclude in Rovio’s casual puzzle title, Angry Birds Dream Blast, with a Jigsaw Event (December 12–16).

“Since its debut in 2009, the Angry Birds universe has expanded with new titles, all of which have introduced new twists to the classic gameplay while maintaining the charm of the original,” said Ben Mattes, Angry Birds Creative Officer at Rovio. “Angry Birds isn't just a game anymore—it's a global phenomenon! Angry Birds has conquered categories far beyond gaming, from licensed products and feature films to amusement parks, becoming one of the first mobile game franchises to achieve such widespread acclaim.”

Angry Birds is pioneering the next era in transmedia storytelling, breaking boundaries and redefining what mobile gaming can achieve. It's one of the few gaming IPs outside of console gaming that can claim such cultural and economic staying power, proving that no matter how the mobile gaming world evolves, Rovio is committed to consistently delivering world-class, globally competitive experiences that stay with fans even when they’re not playing and stand the test of time.

Angry Birds continues captivating new global audiences beyond gaming

Rovio’s overarching strategic vision is to expand the Angry Birds narratives across media platforms beyond gaming—a transmedia strategy that Rovio also shares with its parent company SEGA. During the 15th anniversary year, Rovio has already launched Angry Birds Mystery Island: A Hatchlings Adventure, an animated series that premiered on Prime Video and Amazon Kids+ in May as well as announced the third installment of The Angry Birds Movie series.

In addition, the Angry Birds 15th anniversary celebrations will feature collaborations with independent artists to mark the occasion in creative ways, including music, digital art, food, and more. Angry Birds will also appear in two comic books in the style of the original Angry Birds Classic Comics. On top of these, a full-sized billboard in Times Square has celebrated the anniversary since January.

"With Angry Birds celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, we wanted to find out how diverse creative voices can bring this beloved brand to life and bring joy to new global audiences through even more platforms and mediums," said Eeva Aaltonen, Head of Brand Operations at Rovio. "Alongside being an endlessly fun title that appeals to players, fans, and artists globally, Angry Birds is a once-in-a-lifetime story of how far you can really go when you have an idea, an IP, and an implementation that resonates. We love to see the Angry Birds community growing as it keeps finding new ways to engage with our universe."
