You can cut, fold and glue the new game by DevilishGames

The Spanish studio, creator of games such as Minabo, Path to Mnemosyne or Bambas!, known for its experimental approach to videogames, brings us a cutout game about rebuilding a village.

Villena, September 11th – DevilishGames shows what they have been working on lately through this new trailer: Cutout Village, a narrative game with touches of management and lots of crafts, tells us about the challenges of depopulated villages and the importance of reviving towns in a sustainable way. The characters and buildings’ aesthetics are inspired by medieval villages at a high risk of disappearance, and they will remind us of the popular cutouts from the 1960s. This graphic decision talks about a period when technology, the Internet and social media didn’t play such a prominent role in our leisure and daily lives. Not to mention the phenomenon of gentrification, which was yet to explode.

In Cutout Village, we follow the story of a couple who received a family house and they decided to move to its old town. There, they will find a village on the brink of extinction, which they will try to revive by restoring and constructing new buildings. Each level will present challenges tied to limited services and opportunities, which players must overcome with unique mechanics–the kind of creativity DevilishGames is known for and we saw in former titles like Bambas!. The houses, buildings and even trees and decorations will come as cutout sheets with different designs and a sandbox mode to create your village on your own path. Who hasn't thought about repopulating a village with their friends?

Cutting, folding and gluing are all we will have to do in this new title, which is intended to be released in 2026. In this way, DevilishGames combines the cozy and wholesome dynamics of crafting and DIY, the favorite hobby for many nowadays, reminding us of other ways to enjoy life. This is further reinforced with a physical cutout book, which will be offered as an optional accessory to the game, allowing players to build their own city in real life as well.

Along with the trailer, DevilishGames also gives us our first house: a sheet as the ones we will find in the game and the cutout book, to print, cut, fold and glue whenever you want to disconnect from adulthood. You can now add Cutout Village to your Steam wish list. They will be sharing more information about its development on their Instagram, X and Bluesky accounts.
