Stochastic Walk Releases Free Public Demo for Match Morphosis — the Roguelike Match-3 Deckbuilder Built Solo with a Custom C Engine

A new twist on the Slay the Spire formula: match tiles, build synergies, and die — a lot — in this turn-based RPG crafted entirely from scratch by one developer.

Salatiga, Indonesia — April 22, 2025 — Stochastic Walk today released a free public demo for Match Morphosis, an upcoming Roguelike Match-3 Deckbuilder now available on Steam. The demo is available immediately and gives players their first hands-on look at the full strategic loop: match tiles, defeat enemies, collect artifacts, build synergies, and lose everything to a boss you underestimated.

Match Morphosis is best described as what happens when Slay The Spire meets Candy Crush with the difficulty cranked up. The game strips away timers and grinding to leave only pure tactical decision-making. Players collect from a pool of 50+ tile types, 100+ armaments, and 5 characters, chaining combos and discovering synergies across procedurally generated runs where no two playthroughs are the same.
The game was designed with depth-first principles: all information is visible at all times, every loss is a lesson, and every unlock fundamentally changes how you approach a run, not just a stat boost. It respects player intelligence, offering minimal tutorials and maximum discovery.

What sets Match Morphosis apart technically is how it was built. Every line, from the renderer to the game logic was written in C by a single developer using a completely custom game engine. The result is a game with a minimum spec of just 256 MB RAM that runs on virtually any PC.

“I wanted to prove that one developer with a custom engine and a love for the genre could make something deep and replayable. Match Morphosis is the game I’ve always wanted to play, strategic enough to keep you thinking, simple enough to pick up in minutes, and brutal enough to make every win feel earned.”
